Spring Mornings, Fresh Air & Pilates Energy

There’s something special about this time of year.

The mornings feel lighter, the air feels fresher, and after months of darker days many of us naturally start craving movement again.

You might notice you want to open the windows, step outside with a warm drink, or simply breathe a little deeper. Spring often brings that gentle reminder to wake ourselves up again too.

This is exactly why spring can be the perfect time to return to Pilates.

Pilates helps you wake the body gently. It can improve posture, strengthen the ‘core’, ease stiffness and help you feel more connected to yourself again after winter’s slower pace. It is movement that supports you rather than drains you.

Even just a few mindful minutes in the morning can make a real difference. Here are three lovely movements to try at home before the day begins. Always start with a few moments just focusing on your breathing. Using your nose to inhale, slow & wide, your nose or mouth to exhale. Keep a steady breath throughout your movements.

1. Roll Down

Stand tall with feet hip width apart. Gently nod the chin to the chest and slowly roll down through the spine, one vertebra at a time. Let the arms hang softly, the goal is not to touch the floor. Slowly rebuild the spine back to standing, again one vertebra at a time.

This can help release tension in the neck, shoulders and back.

2. Shoulder Bridge

Lie on your back with knees bent and feet on the floor. Head, neck relaxed & eyes looking up. Press through the feet and gently lift the hips upwards. Imagine your tailbone moving toward the back of your knees.

A wonderful movement to wake up the glutes, legs and spine while opening the front of the hips.

3. Spine Twist Sitting

Sit tall on a chair or on the floor. Cross the arms over the chest and gently rotate through the waist to one side, return to centre, then the other side. Using your inhale & exhale aids this exercise greatly - give it time.

This helps improve mobility through the spine and encourages better posture.

Remember, Pilates should feel controlled and comfortable. Move gently and within your own range.

Imagine starting your morning with steady breathing, simple movement and a few moments just for you. You may feel taller, calmer and more energised for the day ahead.

At Nightingale Pilates, classes are designed to help you move well, feel supported and enjoy exercise in a way that feels good for your body & mind.

If you are waiting for the next studio sessions to be released, this can be the perfect time to begin with Pilates at home. Gentle movement in your own space can help you build confidence, consistency and strength ready for when classes open again.

And who knows… with the warmer months ahead, perhaps a little alfresco Pilates may return too.

For now, let spring be your reminder to move.
