We all know that feeling – we start something with the best intentions, but life gets in the way. Whether it’s work, family, or just the general busyness of life, finding time for movement can feel like a challenge. But here’s the thing – it doesn’t have to be all or nothing.
Building a routine that works for you is the key to staying consistent with your Pilates practice. Let’s explore why routine matters, how you can make movement a natural part of your day, and how to find the right balance between strength and rest.
Why Routine Matters for Movement
Pilates isn’t just about flexibility or core strength – it’s about moving well in everyday life. When you show up for regular movement, even in small ways, you’ll start to notice:
✔ Less stiffness when you wake up
✔ More ease in everyday movements, like reaching, bending, and standing
✔ A stronger, more supported posture
✔ Increased energy and mental clarity
✔ A greater sense of connection with your body
When movement becomes part of your routine, it stops feeling like a chore and starts feeling like something you look forward to – a moment in the day that’s just for you.
But consistency doesn’t mean doing an intense workout every day. It’s about finding what works for you and making it fit into your lifestyle in a way that feels manageable, sustainable, and enjoyable.
How to Make Pilates Part of Your Routine
1. Find Your Non-Negotiable Movement Moments
Your Pilates practice doesn’t have to take over your day. Instead, look for small pockets of time where movement fits naturally.
Do you have 10 minutes in the morning before the day gets busy? Try some gentle spinal mobility or breathing exercises to start the day feeling more open and energised.
Are you spending long hours sitting at a desk? A few stretches at lunchtime can help counteract stiffness and improve focus.
Do you feel your best moving in the evening? A short, focused session can help you unwind and feel grounded before bed.
The key is to choose something realistic – something that you can stick to, rather than setting yourself up for failure by aiming for an hour-long session every day.
2. Make It Easy to Show Up
If getting to an in-person class isn’t always possible, having an online option can be a game changer.
That’s why I created Nightingale @Home – an online group where you can join a live class each week or catch up with the recording whenever it suits you. You’ll also get access to previous live sessions, so there’s always something to fit your mood and schedule.
For £20 a month, you get:
One weekly live Pilates session
Access to all recordings so you can practise anytime
Extra movement challenges and mobility routines
A private Facebook group for support and encouragement
This is perfect for those of you on the waitlist for in-person classes, needing more flexibility, or wanting an easy way to stay consistent. If you’ve been thinking about joining, why not try it for a month and see how it fits into your routine?
3. Balance Strength with Restorative Movement
Consistency isn’t just about turning up for the strong, sweaty sessions – rest and recovery are just as important.
This is why I’m introducing a monthly Restorative Pilates session – an evening designed to slow down, breathe, and give your body time to reset.
Expect warmth, soft light, gentle movement, and deep relaxation. A session to unwind, let go of tension, and move in a way that feels nourishing rather than demanding.

4. Keep It Enjoyable
The best routine is the one you actually want to stick to. The more you enjoy movement, the more likely you are to show up for yourself.
If you love strong, dynamic movement, a general Pilates session will challenge you while improving your strength and mobility.
If you need gentle, spine-friendly movement, a Spinecare class can help you feel freer and more supported.
If you’re looking for something tailored, a 1:1 session is the best way to get a personalised plan that meets your needs.
If you’re not sure what’s right for you, I’m happy to chat and help you find what works.
